Bokurano made me think “DRR DRR DRR”

“TH- THIS IS MY CHAIR! IT WAS MADE FOR ME!”
So I presume this is going to be like Evangelion, but with more character development? Hold on, this is NGE we’re talking about here. As long as the monologues aren’t limited exclusively to abstract images and there’s none of that ‘intelligent’ symbolism I guess I’ll survive. But I’m serious about the character development bit. 15 characters, and what- 24, 26 episodes? If there’s going to be like one death per fight I’m still wondering how they’re going to go about the other 9+ episodes. Mecha filler has never been a high point for me.
There’s been mention of comparing it to Battle Royale but I never saw it so I wouldn’t know — apparently it was like Survivor, only you voted someone out by killing them, and the participants were all high school kids, or something like that? Sounds pretty awesome to me. I can totally foresee that freaky kid who firework’d the crab dying ironically later on. Especially since how, you know, he seems so apathetic towards death as an idea, what with the lame ‘natural predator’ ideology and all. Just begging for a death later on.
Which reminds me. Speaking of spoilers, I hate going to Bokurano’s Wikipedia article. There’s one directly below the damn synopsis and I remember seeing mention of someone’s death after that, all of which I thankfully forgot, so ever since then I’ve unfocused my eyes (like you would looking at one of those hidden picture things where there’s a trick to it) when going there. Be warned.
Still, the part during the ED animation where you see the cast sitting on the chairs was a pretty nice touch, probably hinting at their backstory and personality. The only issue I had with the first battle with the monster was that it too bloody slow-paced — like those battles in Ultraman, they even had laser beams, which was awesome — but then again since I haven’t really watched a proper mecha anime since Sky Girls, if Sky Girls count at all, so I guess I’ll just have to get used to it.
What do you look forward to in your mecha series, anyway? Beautifully choreographed battles? Babes in skin-tight jumpsuits? An actual story behind everything? The first episode had this creepy old guy in a jumpsuit, so you might get turned off right away if you’re into the second. Then there’s Gundam SEED; can anyone enlighten me about why it was so popular? I heard it was due to the pretty character designs and endless drama, but I might be wrong.
Oh, and lolikit, if you’re reading this: I watched the prelude, the preview, and the first two episodes of Air yesterday, and I really hope it gets better later on. Not only did Yukito give me the creeps each and every time he was around one of the high-school girls, which is like 90% of the time, the whole thing seemed rather hard to swallow as a story. Even Higurashi had a lot more credibility than this — Misuzu’s friendliness, Kano’s silence, the whole thing seemed rather prefabricated, if you get my drift.
Neither do I really know what to do with the story as a whole, because while Yuuichi and his harem were interesting in the sense that he had girls looking for him when he didn’t really remember anything and you actually cared about what was happening to them as the story went on, here we have Mr Emo Purple Hair here going around looking pissed and ugly when he’s not whacking lolis on the head, who’s also downright creepy and a jobless loafer to boot.
I mean, I know what suspension of disbelief is, but it felt just weird for some teenage girl to invite a stranger his age into her home and then stay the night when she’s just met him on the same day, which violates a lot of common sense. There had better be some epic twist to make up for all this later on.

Cool blog.
But you’re really asking the wrong person to read your blog. I haven’t been in touch with the anime scene for years, unless it’s to go to conventions from time to time. With the exception of a few titles like Saiyuki, Death Note, and Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, I haven’t been reading a lot of manga or watching a lot of anime. And I don’t read them because I care for their artistic qualities.
Aih, I’m a pure Nineties-era anime fangirl. What is this moe you speak of? And what is this 4chan? What Azumanga Daioh — wasn’t there was DiGi Charat? What Ouran High School Host Club, wasn’t there CLAMP Campus Detectives? Maybe I’ll stop for a Tokyo Godfather or two, and maybe some pretty boys, but otherwise…
Ah, well.

*facepalm*
Oh, that important detail totally slipped my mind. Excuse me while I bury my head in some sand nearby… brb. You did ask me to write something, and this is the closest I could invest in a creativity:time ratio.
