Just an announcement about my new subdomain: it’s finalised. For those of you who are into that sort of thing, you can now update Cruel Angel Theses on your blogroll to omaemo.dasaku.net. Don’t worry about the RSS feed, since FeedBurner is convenient like that.

like ikimashou.net, gone but never forgotten
The new subdomain name, お前も駄作, or “You are also trash”, came about as an satirical reference to how most of the nastier debates about taste that I’ve either witnessed or been party to usually degenerate into narcissism, where one person’s elevated at the expense of putting another person’s preferences down. It’s all good when done in jest, of course, but it never fails to amuse me whenever it gets serious and sparks fly, hence my reason for choosing it.
Now that I’ve settled on a domain, I’ll finally be able to get around to editing all the pictures and links in my old posts, so expect a possible downtime in the coming week as I fix a few long-standing technical issues, install some plugins, and add a few new headers, among other things. Oh, and The ABC will be doing something for Valentines, but I’m sure you saw that coming. Stay tuned for more details!

So is this iteration three of “Cruel Angel Theses”?

Please don’t remind me of how I’ve been putting off updating links to certain images, etc on my own blog…if I leave it long enough, the problem will resolve on its own! *starts singing loudly in order not to hear any dissenting opinions*

Nice to see it finalised. Prepare to be referenced in ‘The Uniform Resource Locator As A Means of Expression’.

I still type “s” into my browser’s location bar every time I wanna go to your site. And then it’s like, 50k day history, gooooo!! And it brings up some random list of old posts on sorenara.ikimashou.net . And without thinking, I go to those, and then it’s like, shit, does not exist. T_T

Oh you crazy icky mashers! I just had to spend like a whole TEN minutes searching all your names and running SQL queries to update all comment author URLs and URLs in posts! I highly recommend using find and replace in your database to make the changes, because (since your permalink structure is the same) it will save you a lot of time and pain. Hit me up if you need to know how.
BTW, did you leave Aria Anime behind, because that subdomain still redirects to the icky masher subdomain? Randall hasn’t updated his blogroll either yet…

Congrats on the move - it currently redirects automatically but I’ve updated my blogroll accordingly. I ought to go into phpmyadmin and do what Kabitzin has though…how’s it done then?
My current plugin list is shockingly long - the page looks as ridiculous as a mod’s Vespa with all those headlights and wing mirrors. It’s all well and good until you have to re-activate them after an upgrade and check for new versions…

BACK UP YOUR DATABASE FIRST! You may want to run this on a small test case first as well, to make sure you understand the concept. This is not the most direct method of updating, but I feel it is a little easier to understand, and since you will be cutting and pasting, you can’t really make a typo and screw everything up.
Since everyone’s database is named differently, here is the basic tutorial:
1) Go to your WP database, then go to the wp_posts table.
2) Click on the search tab and search for post_content LIKE
%ikimashou.net%where the percentage marks indicate a wildcard.3) Select one and change the instance of ikimashou.net to dasaku.net
4) When you do this once, you will notice that it will update that one entry with some code like
UPDATE `YOURDATABASENAME`.`wp_posts` SET `post_content` =WHERE `post_content` LIKE '%ikimashou.net%' WHERE BLAHBLAHBLAHBLAH;
5) Underneath that code will be the code from your search, that will look like
SELECT *FROM `wp_posts`
WHERE `post_content` LIKE '%ikimashou.net%'
LIMIT 0 , 30[...]
6) The idea is to replace the WHERE statement in the first piece of code with the WHERE statement in the second piece of code (
WHERE `post_content` LIKE '%ikimashou.net%';)7) Don’t forget the semicolon at the end (;)
8) Run it and the SQL query will update all the instances for you.
This process can be repeated on your wp_comments table, searching in comment_author_url for %ikimashou.net% and replacing all instances there with dasaku.net. Good luck!

@Kabitzin: thanks a lot. I’ll keep that for future reference, since several blogs linked from mine seem to have changed their urls. It seems pretty doable with the version of phpmyadmin that I’m using, at any rate.

Can’t wait for the Valentine’s thing, whatever that is. Will it be a loli covered in chocolates for me?

Wait…we’re doing something for Valentines Day…

Thanks for letting us know re: the update, and it’s wonderful to know Feedburner means I don’t have to change the RSS URL. ^_^ Keep blogging. (Oh wow, you can edit comments for a limited time. Rock on.)

TheBigN: Yes. I think. I hope. Should be dropping the music note after this.
Karura: I managed to solve it thanks to Randall and Kabitzin’s joint efforts. Didn’t take more than 10 minutes, but you’ve got to be very careful with what you’re doing. Randall told me to tell you and my hosting mates to contact him if you’re interested in fixing it.
IKnight: This is one of the few times I’m glad I can tell when you’re kidding. You are, right?
lk: Ctrl+Shift+Del more often.
Kabitzin: Thanks to your getto yet epic tech support, I managed to get this done. My blog is eternally indebted to you.
Martin: Oh, please, I bet my plugin page’s more pimped out than yours! In all seriousness, thanks. (:
IcyStorm, j.valdez: Yes.
Ai: Thanks for reading! (: It’s always nice to know that I’ve got fellow Malaysians reading my blog..
