The Disappearance of Cruel Angel Theses’ Melancholy
The rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated.
Really. The only reason I’m using a Haruhi reference in the post title’s due to my irrational yet time-honoured tradition of needing to bait unwittingly dumb people who will proffer even dumber comments about how I’m likening my e-go and e-xistence to the attention that the massive Suzumiya Haruhi fanbase lavishes on the franchise, ergo attracting more traffic to this post. On the other hand, if I really had the need to do so, I would have probably used Lucky Star, but that’s one equine corpse I’m going to put aside for a bit.
For the thousands or so of you not in the know about the reason behind my involuntary, abrupt, and impromptu hiatus, I’ve been to university for my English degree. No, wait, make that in university since I’m stealing time–that nerve-wracking limbo between the final wave of assignments and the first wave of finals–in order to write this. It’s a rainy Sunday afternoon, and my playlist (H&C) is currently on Suga Shikao’s Sorosoro Ikanakucha, fittingly enough.
(Speaking of H&C, uni life is exactly like it, only that the Takemotos are annoying more than earnest, the Moritas annoying undiagnosed Aspergers patients instead of eccentric, the Mayamas a lot less aloof and a lot more poseur, and as for the Hagus and Yamadas, well… the attractive girls are always taken as a rule, so no, just no. In other words, university isn’t like H&C at all, but you knew that already, and if you didn’t, I bet you were fooled from the first sentence of this paragraph, suckers)
Tertiary education isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. The saddening predicament of being in a residence sans affordable internet has been met with shock, horror, and even revulsion from those I’ve talked to, but hey, that’s 3rd world for you. If I had been with permanent internet, updating in the past three months would have been almost perfunctory. Fortunately, I’ve heard that Summer wasn’t all it’s cracked up to be, and as I’ll be returning in Fall–like a certain favourite series of a certain blogger whose terse line in one of his updates, “And don’t e-mail me about xx”, was positively hilarious–God’s in his heaven, all’s right with the world indeed.
A fellow blogger just told me an hour ago in Google Talk, “I missed talking to you like this,” and I was all “Oh gawrsh, shucks ma’am” inside.
What have I been up to since May, studies aside? That’s a toughie, and I’m not talking about my ability to ace subjects without studying, either. The only contact with anime that I’ve had would be Code Geass R2, which means that I’m about as familiar with the themes, symbolism, characterisation etc. of the series as you would a person after being stuck on a desert island with him or her for the same amount of time. Everything else I’ve been watching was either dropped or put on hold indefinitely as a result of my sucking at fansub release schedules. Thank God for Eclipse’s consistency.
There’s a personal project thing I’ve been occupying myself with that some of you might know about, but as all I have at the moment are pre-pre-planning plans, I’m afraid there’ll have to be a two-year timeskip before I can give you more concrete information. I’ll also be back home (and blogging) for about 3 months in October; until then, however, the internet lab’s time is limited, and I’m afraid I have to go.
P.S.: Code Trainwreck is probably the most intelligent, witty, and funny blog I’ve ever read that’s solely dedicated (for now) to a series that a lot of people seem to have dumb opinions/attitudes about/towards. A+ for exceptional use of analysis, logic, commentary, and about everything else that makes a great anime blogger. miasmacloud puts the “fan” in “fansubber”.
P.P.S.: This was written on the 24th, hence “rainy Sunday afternoon”.

School is important, you should stay in it.Rock on.I am dropping out of school like Lelouch is getting swimming lessons during R2’s finale.
At least you weren’t expecting random insert music from SPITZ and Suga Shikao to pop up while going to university. :P
From my experiences in previous summers, having no Internet when doing something like this that focus on “newer” stuff is like being on an isolated island. When you come back, so much stuff has changed. And either you take is as is and go with it or worry about what you’ve missed.
But meh. Glad to see you’re doing fine. :3
Actually, I was expecting young-looking girls to not report me to the authorities when I chased them around the campus with a gigantic sunflower/mouse costume and a camera in tow. Turns out I was wrong!
I’m too tsundere to post a comment here after how you left
methe otakusphere for so long.Seriously, uh, good to see you’re not rotting at the bottom of a river somewhere, and I pity your college’s lack of internet (this is why I’m excited to go to a nerdy college, where my internet probably gets faster).
As for summer, Mission-E and Nogizaka Haruka are nice fluff-style things… otherwise, all the good anime for me are spring carryovers and old shows. Then again I’m sure you actually consider a lot of action anime…
> The rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated.
Damn, we were almost finished divvying up your stuff.
…can I keep…that thing…ya’know, that thing.
I repeat myself again: Just as expected.
I found uni to be both the best of times and the worst – there was a lot that happened that I wish hadn’t, and a lot that didn’t happen when I wished it would. On reflection though I’m glad I went…ironically it was the first time that I actually had access to the Internet. Go figure.
I’m racking my brains at what’s happened recently but I think Macross Frontier turning awesome, Xam’d promising great things from the outset and Eve No Jikan delivering everything my fanboyish raves promised and then some more or less covers it.
Code Trainwreck is on my feedreader but I’m not even through the first season yet. At any rate get your blogging
egoass back when you get the chance and don’t let school interfere with your education. ^_^I’ve gotta say, excellent move using “Melancholy” to trigger the Haruhi tag so that the Harutards will then be attracted to your post. Luckily I’ve got the innate talent for triggering ever single popular series tag on my listings every time I write an article so I’m set. I could write about the U.S Elections and probably still trigger Lucky Star, Code Geass, Haruhi and Gundam 00.
University? Been there, done that. Good luck man. You’ll need it to survive the overzealous people sitting next to and directly behind you in lecture. That and the fact that 1 out of every 5 people is either a dude or a ditz and you are just an obstactle between his/her chance to get totally smashed at the campus bar and toke up behind the engineering building. Stay out of their way man, for your own safety.
As for Code Trainwreck, I think it’s only the best blog centered totally around Geass by the sheer virtue that it’s the only blog totally centered around Geass. The thing is, even miasmacloud’s writing/topics can get seriously retarded and witless almost every other post she makes and the blogs regular stable of commenters totally miss the point every time she does come up with something genuinely amusing or insightful.
Anyway, when exactly was it that Code Geass became a 4chan meme again?
Woo! Owen is back! Getting cut off from the internets is horrible. I’ve had that happen and I was D: D: D: ing for a while. Then I went “Woo! I CAN ACTUALLY CONCENTRATE ON MY STUDIES!” course, the next week it came back up. Then I got sucked back in.
Glad you’re back! I’d like to think Martin meant “Don’t let school interfere with your e-ducation” :P
It sucks not being able to have a staple internet, it’s like a necessity now. And, as you’ve probably heard from other people by now, you didn’t miss out on much during the Summer drought. Just get yourself prepared for Fall. I’m super excited over Skip Beat, and am hoping that it will live up to the awesome manga.
And I thought you were dead. Dang.
Woohoo! Owen’s back! Was wondering where you disappeared to =P
Enjoy uni. Best balance between responsibilities and freedom IMO.
Glad to see some signs of life from you. If it makes you feel any better (which I doubt) a lot of Malaysian students (me included) have experienced the pain that is being cut off from the internets, this generation being the internet addicts that we are. Just mabye not for that length of time. Still, no one’s pressuring you to blog right? Lol. Anyway, I missed you. Really. :)
Well, you’re still alive, that’s good, I started to thinking that a put a bookmark in vain, whatever, Waiting for your next post even if it take a year to be published.
I’m part of the dasaku family too and I thought I would make a bit of a comment on your site, cause it’s nice.
Lol, of course life is like Honey&Clover, lol. Sadly enough I find the manga of Honey&XClover rather unexciting and annoying, lol.Just my personal opion. Anyways good luck with school!!! Hope to see you back soon.
Welcome back to the e-world.
So I found myself listening to Sweeney Todd songs instead of Anime soundtracks. Did I do something wrong?
But I missed you, and I liked your last post on Lucky Star. Hope to hear more from you. I’m a dasaku guy now too.
Uh huh. You still suck.
Dear oWendy,
Only one thing has changed since you left: I have become even more unpopular.
Truly yours,
